A scale model build journal

About

Hi there, and welcome to my modeling site!  I’ve recently gotten back into this amazing hobby after a few decades off doing other things.  When COVID hit, I was pretty bored.  One day while rummaging around in the attic looking for my bong, I discovered an old 1/144-scale Revell Saturn V rocket I’d purchased in college but never built.  “Hmmmm…” I thought.  I bought a beginner airbrush and a few modest supplies, and began reading blogs and forum posts and watching YouTube videos on how to use all this stuff.  I am now fully back into the hobby: I’m having fun testing out and practicing new techniques, learning from others, and watching my models come together.  I like to build space vehicles and military aircraft (typically in 1/72-scale), and I hope to share my experiences here.

I draw great inspiration from the models on these sites:

iModeler : lots of incredibly talented people here sharing daily builds: aircraft, armor, cars, etc.

Large Scale Planes : quality builds of larger-scale (1/32) aircraft, great for getting ideas for effects that might (or might not) work on smaller-scale aircraft.

HyperScale : Extensive index of completed aircraft models in a variety of scales.

Model Kits Review : Reviews and builds of a wide range of different types of models.

Modeling Madness : Perhaps the largest archive of aircraft model reviews and build write-ups on the internet.  Excellent resource.

And I enjoy tapping the collective genius of modelers on britmodeller and finescale.

Finally, scalemates is a great place to find out which manufacturers make the subject you want to build, complete with in-box photos and included decals.
